As Connecticut's strategic venture capital arm and one of the most active investors on the eastern seaboard, CI has a portfolio of 220+ companies across various industries, with strengths in life sciences, technology and climate tech. CI meets with hundreds of companies every year, identifying the most promising early-stage companies looking to grow in the state. Every year, CI invests in 20+ new companies, in addition to providing follow-on capital to existing portfolio companies. CI also invests as a Limited Partner in outside venture funds based in CT (17 in the past 6 years).

CI announced it invested $45.8 million in 67 companies and venture funds throughout the fiscal year ending June 30, 2025. CI's investments also helped to attract an additional $653 million in outside capital into its portfolio companies. The fiscal year generated $43.2 million in proceeds, which will allow CI to invest in more early-stage companies in the future.

Director of Capital Formation
Capital is needed during key points of a startup's development - when starting a business, during rapid growth or scaling phases, or when planning an acquisition. Fundraising is an art that involves a lot of soft skills, and success is not tied to a set of clearly definable metrics.The role blends capital raising, investor communications, investor relations infrastructure buildout (i.e., data room, investor presentations, etc.), and relationship management. You'll play a key role in closing capital commitments for our portfolio companies (6 funds and 220+ investments) and delivering an exceptional investor experience-from first conversation through ongoing engagement.
Investor Relations & Fundraising Support:
- Partner with the Founder, Executive Team, and Board of Directors at our portfolio companies to support capital raising across HNWIs, family offices, and institutional allocators
- Develop and manage investor outreach pipelines; track deal flow, meetings, and follow-ups in coordination
- Create and maintain compelling investor materials: pitch decks, factsheets, talking points, and onboarding guides
- Represent our portfolio companies in a thoughtful, credible, and professional manner to prospective investors
Investor Onboarding & Experience
- Serve as a point of contact for onboarding new investors, ensuring a smooth and responsive experience
- Coordinate across teams and legal counsel to manage the investor subscription process, including fund documentation, KYC/AML compliance, and account setup
- Help investors understand operational processes, etc.
Ongoing Relationship Management
- Build long-term relationships with VCs and angel investors who would invest in our portfolio companies and serve as trusted advisors to both the founders and the investors
- Deliver regular investor reporting in partnership with our portfolio companies, including performance summaries, market commentary, and company updates
- Support ad hoc investor inquiries and help maintain a high level of service and responsiveness
Investor Communications & Events
- Assist with planning and execution of investor calls, webinars, and roadshows
- Support the creation of quarterly reports, newsletters, and investor letters
- Collect and synthesize investor feedback to inform product and messaging strategy

Qualifications
- 10 years of experience in investor relations, capital raising, or investment operations at a fund, financial institution, or venture capital firm
- Demonstrated success raising capital for early-stage companies (Seed-Series B) across multiple investment industries
- Familiarity with the asset management lifecycle and investor onboarding processes
- Experience managing or supporting HNW, family office, or institutional investor relationships
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Highly organized and proactive with strong interpersonal skills
- A confident communicator-both in writing and in person-with the ability to tailor messaging to sophisticated investors
- Equally comfortable working independently and collaborating cross-functionally
- Excited about working with Founders and Entrepreneurs
This role will work at CI's headquarters in New Haven, CT (District | Coworking Space) on a hybrid schedule (Mondays and Wednesdays onsite). Having a Connecticut residency is required for this role.
