We focus on how emerging technologies can be applied to large and expanding markets. We invest in companies across sectors but always through the lens of customer needs and behaviors.
Established in 2016 with offices in Los Angeles, New York and San Francisco, the firm is a full-stack partner that brings its deep bench of full-time operators to help founders outperform and build category-defining companies.
We are seeking an Investment Analyst to join M13’s investment team in San Francisco. The ideal candidate is both technically fluent and deeply curious about early-stage startups. You will leverage your technical expertise, product instincts, and network in the Bay Area to help M13 identify, evaluate, and support the next generation of founders.
What you’ll be doing:
Conducting deep dives and research into emerging technologies, products, and AI applications and infrastructure
Evaluating early-stage companies through product/technical analysis, financial analysis, market sizing, and unit economics
Building cap tables and underwriting scenarios, and writing investment memos
Attending and representing M13 at demo days, founder events, and hacker houses across the Bay Area
Building and maintaining relationships with technical founders, operators, and other ecosystem partners
Assisting internal product and systems builds to support M13’s investment practice, including AI sourcing and company evaluation tools, CRM, automations, and more
Supporting senior members of the investment team track deal flow, organize diligence data, and prepare materials
What you bring to the role:
1-3 years of experience in tech, VC, or at an accelerator
A technical background: you may have studied computer science, worked as a software engineer/product manager, or simply love to code and build in your spare time
An AI-native mindset: you integrate AI tools into your workflow, like to experiment with new releases, and are excited to share your learnings with others
Reliability and ownership: you are organized and never drop the ball, and are known for your world-class follow-through skills
A data-driven approach and point of view: you enjoy and use data and your financial prowess to influence your point of view
Excellent communication: you are comfortable supporting multiple teammates, and have a strong desire to work with a team of investors to play a critical role in all deals
Strong presence in the San Francisco tech ecosystem: you understand the community and are excited to continue building relationships with its key players
Zero ego! You are excited to learn and contribute to the success of the team
What’s in it for you:
One Team, One Dream: A chance to work alongside world-class VC talent in a collaborative and developmentally-focused culture that is respectful, inclusive, diverse, and inspiring. You’ll do your life's best work here and have fun doing it
Investment in Your Future: Employees are also eligible for a 401(k) Retirement Plan with additional employer contributions for all participating employees
Comprehensive Health Package: Medical, dental, and vision plans that are thoughtful and supportive of the needs of each M13 employee
Open PTO Policy: We're focused on healthy work-life balance and, therefore, set no firm guidelines regarding how much time off each employee is permitted to take
Research shows that while men apply to jobs when they meet an average of 60% of the criteria, women and other marginalized folks tend only to apply when they check every box. So if you have what it takes but don't necessarily meet every single point on the job description, please still get in touch. We'd love to chat and see if you could be a great fit.
