The Total Plan Risk team, within OMERS Risk, is responsible for providing a consolidated view of the total plan risk appetite and investment risk across all OMERS investment platforms. The team prepares quarterly Investment Risk reports to the Board and Executive leadership and conducts ongoing research and analytics to inform decision making at a total plan level.
As an Associate Director on the Investment Risk team, you will be responsible for the research of the industry’s best practices in risk management and implementation and continuous improvement of these practices at OMERS.
This role incorporates a mix of research, quantitative analysis, communication and project management of complex risk management initiatives. It is best suited for a motivated self-starter who is ready to learn quickly.

This is a 12 month direct T4 contract (Non incorporated/hourly rate)
As a member of this team, you will be responsible for:
Overseeing the quarterly risk reporting to the Board of Directors and Executive Leadership, to ensure delivery of a high-quality reports with relevant insights
Understanding how tactical investment decisions impact the total plan
A strong understanding of investment teams’ and management’s objectives to develop risk analysis that supports their investment decision making
Proactively identifying and effectively communicating risks with respect to portfolio exposures across the enterprise
Supporting cross-enterprise projects and making actionable recommendations that could be used for total plan asset allocation
Responding to ad-hoc requests to provide risk’s perspective on any number of projects from across the organization
Establishing strong relationships with key stakeholders, including across the risk team, investment units, total portfolio management, strategy and the actuarial services team
Recognizing market trends and risks emerging in the markets
Communicating complex risk measurement concepts in an effective and concise manner to non-quantitative audiences
Promoting a robust risk culture
To succeed in this role, you should have:
The successful candidate will possess a blend of financial and communication skills mostly likely developed in the investment management function:
The technical skills will include:
University degree in a financial discipline, such as finance/economics or business
CFA, CBV, CPA , FRM or other investment related designation
Comprehensive knowledge of public and private asset classes and financial markets
8+ years in the financial service industry including experience in direct investments, transaction or valuation work experience
The communication skills will include:
Excellent writing and presentation skills
Ability to capture the attention of senior investment staff when communicating risk-related topics
Experience with presenting complex quantitative concepts to a non-quantitative audience
