A well-established, privately held real estate investmetn firm is seeking an experienced Director of Accounting to lead a small but highly capable team and oversee the accounting operations for a portfolio of (mostly) neighborhood retail properties. This is a newly created leadership role as the current CFO is semi-retiring and are on the market for their successor. The candidate will drive process improvements, mentor a seasoned team, and partner closely with the executive leadership of a long-standing, growth-oriented firm.

What You’ll Do

• Lead accounting for ~25 retail shopping centers, including CAM reconciliations, budgets, and property-level reporting
• Supervise and mentor a small accounting team (Controller, Property Accountant, and AP/AR Staff
• Modernize back-office operations, including AP automation and Yardi system optimization
• Support acquisitions, dispositions, and 1031 exchanges
• Collaborate with leadership on high-level cash flow planning and basic tax strategies

What We’re Looking For

• 10+ years of overall experience, including 5+ years of accounting experience in retail, commercial, or multifamily real estate
• Strong Yardi experience and Excel proficiency
• Hands-on leader with experience mentoring accounting teams
• Knowledge of 1031 exchanges and basic tax strategy preferred
• CPA a plus, but not required
