We are partnering with a cross-border venture capital firm with offices in the Bay Area and Tokyo in recruiting a Marketing & Communications Director be the creative voice behind their brand and help tell their story as the innovation bridge between Silicon Valley and Japan.

This position can be based either in the firm's San Francisco or Tokyo office.

Mission & Approach

  • More than capital – The firm invests globally but also plays an active role in ecosystem building, shaping how startups scale and how corporations adopt innovation.
  • Tour guide for innovation – They act as a “tour guide” for Japanese corporate partners exploring global technologies, and for international startups entering Japan.
  • Focus on hybrid strengths – Beyond software, they emphasize areas where Japan has a competitive edge: robotics, advanced materials, precision manufacturing, and devices.
  • Driving systemic change – Their work contributes to cultural and structural shifts in Japan’s venture ecosystem, from expanding exit options beyond premature IPOs to elevating the perception of entrepreneurship.

The Role

This is a rare opportunity to build a Marketing & Communications function inside a venture capital platform. You’ll be responsible for building brand visibility through storytelling — writing articles, blogs, newsletters, and interviews, while also producing podcasts, managing social media, and strengthening media relationships.

While the initial focus is on elevating the firm’s brand, this role has significant growth potential. Over time, you’ll expand the scope to support portfolio companies with their own marketing strategies and even help other Japan-based startups as they scale internationally. In short, you’ll not just be creating content, but shaping a new capability that can become a differentiator for the firm and a new business line.

What We’re Looking For

  • Native-level Japanese required
  • 5–10 years of experience in B2B marketing, communications, journalism, PR, or content creation (VC/startup/tech media experience a plus)
  • Proven track record of producing engaging, narrative-driven content
  • Strong grasp of digital platforms (social media, podcasts, newsletters)
  • Entrepreneurial mindset; thrives in lean, globally minded teams
  • Passionate about startups, technology, and cross-border storytelling
