CVC Investment Principal
Full-time
New York, NY, USA
A San Francisco-based corporate venture platform, backed by a major Japanese financial group, is hiring a VP or Principal Investor for a newly created seat. The role blends leading large strategic investments ($100M–$200M) into pre-IPO fintech companies with sourcing and executing smaller early-stage venture checks (~$1M), on a lean, fully remote, eight-person team. You'll also help shape overall strategy as the firm continues to grow.
The ideal candidate will have a background in private equity, venture capital, or corporate venture capital (CVC) investing — sector focus in fintech, crypto, or blockchain is a plus but not required, as long as you're genuinely excited to learn the space. Japanese language proficiency is a strong plus but not required.
What You'll Do
- Lead Strategic Investments: Own due diligence and execution on large strategic investments (typically $100M–$200M) into pre-IPO and late-stage fintech companies, including stablecoins, blockchain infrastructure, and adjacent areas.
- Manage the Portfolio: Monitor and support existing strategic positions, including follow-on decisions and board or observer coordination as needed.
- Source Early-Stage Deals: Evaluate and execute early-stage venture investments (~$1M checks) alongside the broader team.
- Build Independent Deal Flow: Develop proprietary pipeline using your own network as well as the firm's broader ecosystem relationships.
- Prepare for HQ Review: Put together investment materials and recommendations for the firm's largest commitments.
- Operate with Autonomy: Work in a lean, remote, multi-hat capacity with real ownership over your book of business.
Requirements:
- Around 10 years or more of experience investing across private equity, venture capital or CVC structures
- Track record of sourcing deals independently
- Comfortable moving between large strategic checks and smaller early-stage venture investments
- Genuine interest in fintech, crypto, and blockchain investing; direct experience is a plus
- Fluency in Japanese is a strong plus but not required
